God Wants ALL of ME:  My SERVICE (Romans 12:3-8)

God saves us to live for Him. He commands us to yield our bodies to Him, and to be renewing our minds for Him. He does so that we might fully live for Him, serving Him by serving others. God desires for us to serve Him with our time, effort, energy, and abilities. As God is the Lord of our bodies and our minds, He becomes the Lord of all that we do. A major part of that is serving other believers with one or more spiritual abilities that God gives for that very reason.  (This is the third of a four-part series on Romans 12.)

5 “Looks” of Communion (1 Corinthians 11:17-34)

Tuesday, September 11th, 2018

5 “Looks” of Communion (1 Corinthians 11:17-34)
Communion (sometimes called “The Lord’s Table”) is more than a tack-on at the end of a service. Communion, as Jesus instituted, is intended to remind us regularly of several truths, and to have us measure ourselves by these truths. In this study, we will highlight 5 focuses or “looks” that Jesus intended for us to take each time we participate in communion. With these 5 looks, we offer 10 questions to ask oneself to help prompt us as we examine these focuses.

God Addresses a Woman’s Honor and Her Focus (1 Timothy 5:1-16)

God Addresses a Woman’s Honor and Her Focus (1 Timothy 5:1-16)

Womanhood is something very special to God. 1 Timothy 5:1-16 could be said to the “Proverbs 31” of the New Testament. God gives instructions on how women are to be honored as mothers. He gives almost rapid-fire commands on caring for aged women, both who have family and those who do not. Some are to be taken “into the number” as supported staff by the church. Paul gives a list of qualifiers that a woman is to meet which includes age and activity. Those too young are to marry, bear children, and manage the home. God’s most eternal plans for a woman center around her home-based ministry.

MONEY MATTERS: Jesus Presents Two Principles Regarding Possessions (Luke 16:10-13)

MONEY MATTERS: Jesus Presents Two Principles Regarding Possessions (Luke 16:10-13)

Jesus goes from telling stories to straight talk. He gives two principles that cannot be mistaken or missed. The first principle relates to reliability. Only those who are faithful with what little they already have can be counted on to be faithful with more. Faithfulness is not a matter of quantity. The second principle relates to loyalty. Jesus declares that absolutely no one can serve God and money. You may have the idea in your head that you can, but Jesus clearly says one master wins out. You can easily tell if God is your master by how you handle, pursue, and prize your money and possessions. Who is your master? God, or money? It’s easy to tell.

Your Works Make a Difference (1 Cor 15:58)

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

Do you ever wonder if serving God makes any difference? When you look at the results of your sometimes exhausting efforts, you see nothing come of them? God addresses this very directly in 1 Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

We take some time in this message to explain this verse in detail, and to encourage you that your works DO make a difference.

Selfess Serving – Q & A – Temporary Gifts?

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

During our review of Selfless Serving, the question was asked, “Why would all the gifts not be for today, since they are taught in the Bible?” Great question! We spend the entire class time discussing reasons why we believe many spiritual gifts were temporary.

Basic Discipline #6: Selfless Serving – Rewarded for Serving

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

God will reward us for serving. The surprising thing is, however, that He rewards based upon our ability and circumstances, not our position or power. In this study, we will look at the way God “levels the playing field” for everyone regarding rewards.
