Timeline of Truth:  The Fallout of Gideon, the Faulty Judge (Judges 8:31–9:57)
Gideon’s negative impact does not end with his death. Gideon’s choices and sins produce an environment of death and destruction. Gideon’s son, Abimelech, makes a pact with the leaders of his pagan city and murders all of his many brothers (except the one that hid and escaped) and then sets himself up as king (a position Gideon lived, though maybe without the title). Abimelech follows in his father’s footsteps but with magnified violence and vengeance. God addresses the sin of Abimelech and the men of his city and allows each to destroy the other. Our choices and actions create lasting impact beyond our lifetimes. What impact are you creating?

Jesus Illustrates Your Two After-Death Possibilities (Luke 16:19-31)

Jesus Illustrates Your Two After-Death Possibilities (Luke 16:19-31)

Jesus compares two men of very contrasting living conditions. One man is very rich and lives lavishly in luxury. The other man, a very poor man named Lazarus, has nothing – not even his health. Both men die, but end up in two entirely opposite ends. The rich man finds himself in Hades in incredible pain, and Lazarus is in comfort next to Abraham. Jesus focuses primarily on the rich man and his urgent pleas in the midst of his suffering. Jesus also highlights the extreme importance of responding to the Word of God in this life. What will YOU wake up to when you die?

Finding Comfort in the Resurrection – Reuniting at the Rapture (1 Thes 4:13-18)

Saturday, April 5th, 2014

One of the most comforting passages in all of the Bible for those that believe in Jesus is 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18:

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive [and] remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Within this passage, Paul presents, two goals, three groups, two promises, a timeline for Jesus’ return as described here (the rapture), and one command that we are to carry out.
