Timeline of Truth: A Dangerous Misunderstanding and Its Lesson (Joshua 22:10-34)
As the two and one-half tribes return east of the Jordan, a simple monument turns into a great misunderstanding. The rest of the tribes of Israel are ready to go to war. Thankfully a small group of representatives from the western tribes talk it out and find out the truth of the other altar and prevent unnecessary bloodshed.

Jesus Confirms Our Need to Humbly Admit Our Sinfulness (Luke 18:9-14)

Jesus Confirms Our Need to Humbly Admit Our Sinfulness (Luke 18:9-14)

Jesus addresses those who had come to trust in their own righteousness by telling the parable of a Pharisee and a tax collector praying at the temple.  The Pharisee prays, listing his righteous resume’. In stark contrast, the tax collector can only ask for mercy and acknowledge his sinfulness. Only one went away pronounced righteous, and it was not the self-righteous Pharisee. How can this be? What must we learn?

Jesus Encourages Continual Prayer to Counter Giving Up (Luke 18:1-8)

Jesus Encourages Continual Prayer to Counter Giving Up (Luke 18:1-8)

Jesus the danger of giving of, of “losing heart,” and encourages one practice that can serve to counter this danger – ongoing prayer.  Jesus gives His exhortation for ongoing prayer, and then shares a parable to illustrate and contrast. In the parable, Jesus describes a widow who is effective in “praying” or appealing to a judge that neither fears God nor cares what man thinks. But even with this type of man, the widow succeeds. If prayer can work on a human level with someone that has no care for God or people, think how praying to God can work! God, who is holy and just and caring and loving, invites our prayers, and desires to hear and to answer! Unlike the unrighteous judge, we do not have to pester God, as He is ready to listen and to help.

God Addresses a Woman’s Honor and Her Focus (1 Timothy 5:1-16)

God Addresses a Woman’s Honor and Her Focus (1 Timothy 5:1-16)

Womanhood is something very special to God. 1 Timothy 5:1-16 could be said to the “Proverbs 31” of the New Testament. God gives instructions on how women are to be honored as mothers. He gives almost rapid-fire commands on caring for aged women, both who have family and those who do not. Some are to be taken “into the number” as supported staff by the church. Paul gives a list of qualifiers that a woman is to meet which includes age and activity. Those too young are to marry, bear children, and manage the home. God’s most eternal plans for a woman center around her home-based ministry.

Jesus Teaches and Warns About His Second Coming (Luke 17:20-37)

Jesus answers a question of the Pharisees about the timing of the kingdom of God and then teaches and warns the disciples regarding his Second Coming. Jesus warns His disciples about what to look for when He returns, and how to avoid false reports of His return. Jesus likens the time of His Second Coming to the days of Noah and to the days of Lot. What does this mean, and when will this happen? How will this encourage us to share the Gospel with others? Understand, everyone will know the real Jesus when He returns to earth a second time.
