Timeline of Truth: God Does Wonders and Exalts Joshua (Joshua 3:1-17)

Wednesday, February 21st, 2018

God had a plan for Israel to cross the Jordan River, one of the largest natural barriers the nation had to face.  God gave the instructions and created the miracle for their passing, but it was up to Israel to obey.  God wants us to follow His plans and instructions in our lives.  When we do, we see God work.

LESSONS FROM A PENITENT SON AND A COMPASSIONATE FATHER (Luke 15:17-24)

Sin is stupid when we see it realistically. The wasteful and foolish younger son had spent everything in a far land, and finds himself desolate and desperate, feeding pigs and eating their food. In these circumstances, this son comes to his senses. He realizes how foolish his choices were, how bad his sin was, and how obvious the results of sin were. The things he rejected – his father and the structure and responsibility of family – now seemed incredibly favorable and acceptable. Even the lowest hired hand of his father had plenty to eat. The desolate son repents of his sin and makes plans to return to his father and confess his sinfulness, and to request to be a hired hand. He acts on his decision and heads home. Before he reaches his home, he is seen by his father, who responds with the most amazing actions. Jesus emphasizes God’s view of a repentant sinner and the joy which God embraces him.

Jesus Tells the Parable of a Father and His Two Sons #1 (Luke 15:11-16)

Tuesday, February 13th, 2018

Sin is like gravity. You can ignore what God says about it, but it has the same effects, consequences, and result on you anyway, no matter where you go. In this study, we look at the first key individual mentioned in this story or account. He is often called “The Prodigal Son.” We see this younger son’s poor choices and his progressive spiral downward while living the wild, wasteful life when he eventually hits bottom. We look at his 8 downward steps and then draw 9 helpful lessons from his life. Does his life in any way reflect your life? If so, what would God have you do to make corrections?

Jesus Illustrates the Joy a Lost One Brings When Found (Luke 15:1-10)

Lost Sheep Big Deal

Hearing the ongoing scornful complaints of the religious scribes and Pharisees regarding the company He is keeping, Jesus shares several parables to illustrate how God sees those that are lost and know they are lost. First is a parable of a lost sheep, the owner of which leaves the other 99 sheep in order to search for the lost sheep until it is found. The second parable Jesus tells is of a lost coin, the owner of which lights her house, sweeps her floor and searches until she finds it. These first two parables both end with rejoicing and celebrating, which Jesus likens to the joy that happens in heaven when one lost sheep or coin is found. Heaven is more excited about one sinner repenting that all those who think they do not need to repent.

Have you acknowledged being a sinner, and believed on Jesus? Or are you of the group that believes he/she does not need to repent. It makes a difference – eternally. Has heaven celebrated over you?
