“You shall have no other gods before me” does NOT mean we can have other gods as long as God is first. It means that we cannot have any other gods anywhere in the presence of God. Nothing is to compete with God as the center and controller of our lives.

After some deep discussion, God breaks it down very simple for the husbands. Love and care for your wife like you do your own body. She is part of you.

28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

Why is a husband to love his wife? For what end? To sanctify her by the ongoing application of the Word of God. The husband does not need to be a theologian or Biblical scholar. He just needs to bring the Word to life’s circumstances.
