God Explains Marriage, Part 2 (Ephesians 5:22-24)

We start to look more closely at the specific commands in Ephesians 5-22-33. Since the passage begins with the wives, we do the same.

First we look at the statement in v.21 which says “submitting to one another,” and how the six individual roles are commanded to carry that concept out as it relates to their specific relationships.

Second we examine why the wives are commanded before the husbands. We discover that this pattern is not limited to the wives. A very interesting observation surfaces.

We studied the creation and design of marriage by God in Genesis. God gives us greater understanding of the roles and meaning of marriage in Ephesians 5. In this study we examine 6 preliminary observations – general truths that characterize this passage:

  1. My Marriage Role Is Based Upon My Gender
  2. My Marriage Role Is Commanded
  3. My Marriage Role Is Without Conditions
  4. My Marriage Role Focuses on My Actions Toward My Spouse
  5. My Marriage Role Assumes an Imperfect Spouse
  6. My Marriage Role Is Built Upon a Spiritual Relationship
