Monday, December 14th, 2009

The purpose and point of Christmas is all but forgotten. People now fight “to keep Christ in Christmas” by being greeted by “Merry Christmas,” or having department stores call an evergreen a “Christmas tree” rather than a “holiday tree.” Believers focus on buying things for each other or getting some special warm feeling from the spirit of the season. Christmas cards must be sent and decorations must be hung. However, most of what the world (including Christendom) does almost completely ignores the event and intent of the coming of the Son of God to earth as a baby.

We have never been commanded to celebrate Jesus’ coming. Though it is not wrong to do so, it is wrong to distract ourselves from the sin-bearing Savior. He did not come to create a gift-giving holiday. He came to die for the sins of the world.

We take a brief look at God’s plan of providing salvation to our lost world from past, present, and future in 8 summary points.
