Timeline of Truth: God’s Blessing of Children Spoken and Illustrated (Ruth 4:11b-13)

Sunday, November 24th, 2019

God is involved in conception, and that conflicts with much of what is believed and practiced today by the church and the world. Ruth 4:11-13 give one of the clearest illustrations and explanations of God’s direct involvement in the conceiving of children. We study this passage, and ask 8 important questions that need to be asked regarding God and conception.

Timeline of Truth: Boaz Redeems Ruth (Ruth 4:7-11a)

Wednesday, November 20th, 2019

In keeping his promise to Ruth, when the closest relative cannot redeem her, Boaz fulfills his duty as the closest relative redeems Ruth. Why was this done this way? How is this reflected in Christ’s actions towards us?

Timeline of Truth: Ruth Approaches Boaz as Naomi Instructed (Ruth 3:6-18)

Sunday, November 3rd, 2019

Ruth acts on Naomi’s detailed instructions as to where, when, and how to approach Boaz regarding marriage. Boaz, surprised, replies with good, but complicated news. We review why Boaz may not have taken action on his own. We also review why this was appropriate to do, and why this was a righteous act toward a righteous man. God works through the godly guidance, initiative, and obedience of His people.

Timeline of Truth: Naomi Guides Ruth to Approach Boaz (Ruth 3:1-5)

Monday, October 28th, 2019

Harvest season is over. Boaz had continued to provide for and protect Ruth. Boaz takes no further action as a potential kinsman-redeemer (and we give several suggestions as to why both Boaz and Naomi hesitate). We look at how Naomi takes action, directing Ruth to approach Boaz with a marriage proposal based upon his kinsman-redeemer relationship. We also discuss five key responsibilities of a kinsman-redeemer.

Timeline of Truth: Tragedy, Added to Adversity, Added to Apostasy (Ruth 1:1-5)

Sunday, September 8th, 2019

The Book of Ruth begins with a very poor scenario. Those highlighted in this book find themselves in a country that is driven by apostasy, having departed from God, and thus, truth and righteousness. Added to that, the country is suffering from a widespread famine, which impacts its inhabitants. On top of these difficulties, the key family suffers the personal tragedy of multiple deaths of loved ones. Life is full of troubles, but God is always sin control.

Timeline of Truth: Spiritual Failure: God Sends Trouble on God-Forsakers (Judges 2:6 – 3:6)

Timeline of Truth:  Spiritual Failure: God Sends Trouble on God-Forsakers  (Judges 2:6 – 3:6)
Chapter 2 of Judges looks deeper into the actions (or inactions) of Israel’s military failures of Chapter 1. We see the full-blown impact of disobedience and the eternity-impacting downward spiral that sin brings. Because Israel forsakes God and His covenant and plunges themselves deep into worshipping the gods of the nations they are around, God brings oppressors that make the lives of the nation of Israel miserable. Do they come back to God? No. They run further into sin and away from God. Does God wholly abandon them? No. In the midst of their discipline and punishment, God continues to show grace by raising up judges – limited and often very broken leaders – to free them from their oppressors for a time, and to keep Israel on course for His future promises.

Jesus Addresses the Damage of Divorce (Luke 16:18)

Jesus Addresses the Damage of Divorce (Luke 16:18)

Jesus is in the middle of teaching on money, and then brings up – divorce? His point is that if one is not faithful in the realm of money, one will certainly not be faithful in the realm of moralityIn this study, we take a brief and precise look at what Jesus said in Luke 16:18 about divorce. We first review what the Bible teaches on marriage, as one cannot understand what the Bible says about divorce without first understanding marriage. We then look at the impact of divorce on marriage, and then we examine the two situations where the Bible appears to allow for divorce. To understand God’s hatred of divorce, understand God’s design for marriage.

MONEY MATTERS: Jesus Confronts the Money-Loving Pharisees (Luke 16:14-18)

MONEY MATTERS: Jesus Confronts the Money-Loving Pharisees (Luke 16:14-18)

Jesus confronts the money-loving religious leaders that have been hearing Him speak and sneering at His teaching. Jesus points out their ungodly habit of trying to justify their ungodly money-loving attitudes and actions. He lets them know that what man considers important actually repulses God. Money often replaces God in people’s lives. Jesus also illustrates that when one refuses to follow God in one area, that person is likely to refuse to follow God in all areas, including morality and marriage. Are you like the money-loving Pharisees that put money first?
