Timeline of Truth: Joshua Sets Up a Memorial of What God Has Done (Joshua 4:1-24)

God commands Joshua to set up a memorial in order that Israel would remember what God had done.  The stones which were removed from the Jordan when God stopped the water were set up so that generations to come would ask and learn about God.  We should make it a priority to remember who God is and what He has done for us.

In this chapter, we encounter Rahab, a gentile harlot, who sees who God is and what He is doing.  By faith she chooses to forsake her people and to follow the Lord.  Rahab is an example to us of what it means to believe in God and to do what He wants us to do.

Enter Joseph on the scene, the fourth “patriarch” of Genesis. From Genesis 37 through the end of Genesis 50, Joseph becomes the focal point and tool for God’s working. There are amazingly helpful things we will learn as we look at his life and God’s work in and through it.

This lesson, we look at the dreams that God gave to Joseph about the future, and the problems that Joseph encountered from his brothers and even his own father.

Jacob falls in love with Rachel, and makes a deal with Laban to serve 7 years for her. After 7 years, Jacob learns what it means to be on the receiving end of deception.

God has promised Abram many, many descendants. He is 85 years old and still has none. His wife, Sarai, no doubt feeling the pressure of womanhood (bearing no children), the pressure of the promise of many descendants to Abam, but also having her husband’s name mean “father of many,” comes up with a very selfless plan: Give Abram her handmaiden as a wife, and bear children through her.  What does Abram do? Does this solve the problem?
