Timeline of Truth: The Horrific Loss of Doing What Is Right in One’s Own Eyes (Judges 19:1-28) – Part 1: Rampant Immorality

Thursday, March 28th, 2019

In Judges, God shares some of the worst of what men can become when they reject His Word and do what is right in their own eyes. Judges 19 is very likely one of the darkest chapters in all of the Bible. Like Sodom, perverted men seek to sexually violate a visitor passing through town. What may be even worse, this visitor sends out his wife in his place! She is violated by the mob through the night, to the point of death. Rejecting God’s Word leads to selfishness, sexual perversion, and harm to everyone around us.

Jesus Addresses the Damage of Divorce (Luke 16:18)

Jesus is in the middle of teaching on money, and then brings up – divorce? His point is that if one is not faithful in the realm of money, one will certainly not be faithful in the realm of moralityIn this study, we take a brief and precise look at what Jesus said in Luke 16:18 about divorce. We first review what the Bible teaches on marriage, as one cannot understand what the Bible says about divorce without first understanding marriage. We then look at the impact of divorce on marriage, and then we examine the two situations where the Bible appears to allow for divorce. To understand God’s hatred of divorce, understand God’s design for marriage.

MONEY MATTERS: Jesus Confronts the Money-Loving Pharisees (Luke 16:14-18)

Jesus confronts the money-loving religious leaders that have been hearing Him speak and sneering at His teaching. Jesus points out their ungodly habit of trying to justify their ungodly money-loving attitudes and actions. He lets them know that what man considers important actually repulses God. Money often replaces God in people’s lives. Jesus also illustrates that when one refuses to follow God in one area, that person is likely to refuse to follow God in all areas, including morality and marriage. Are you like the money-loving Pharisees that put money first?
